The young cast, including my dear friend, Rosie Limeres, sang their hearts out, and a great time was had by all. The show is playing weekends till the end of September. Check out their schedule at www.themirrortheater,com for dates and prices. It's an evening you'll not soon forget.

After the show, having congratulated Rosie and preparing to leave, half the cast came over to meet me. Apparently, before the show, Rosie had told her fellow players who I am. Thus, I spent the next 20 minutes having my picture taken with many of them, officially, as they told me, giving them bragging rights with all their friends.

I'm starting to give serious consideration to never leaving the house ever again. For those of you who might wish to find me at any time during the Great Intergalactic Lemming Race, my schedule so far looks like this:

THURSDAY:

2:30-3:30PM - "The Dark Knight Rises" Panel - a psychological view of what makes the Batman tick, with Michael Uslan, Steve Englehart, and several noted brain people. Last year's was a blast (Room 26AB)

FRIDAY:

4-5PM - Autograph Signing (DC Booth #1915)

SATURDAY:

11AM-12PM - Autograph Signing (DC Booth #1915)

12:45-1:45PM - DC Comics "Before Watchmen" Panel - with most of the usual suspects, me, Dan DiDio, Darwwn Cooke, Amanda Conner, Adam Hughes, JMS, and a slew of others. C'mon, you know you wanna hear this. (Room 6DE)

SUNDAY:

3-4PM - Autograph Signing (DC Booth #1915)

That's all that's official so far, but you might want to check out Mark Evanier's Quick Draw Panel Saturday right after Noon. There are rumors I might be there, and rumor also has it that I'll be at one of the tables in Artist's Alley in aisle 4800 much of the rest of the time for autographing and pictures and such.

Since I usually hire at least three or four other people to wander around the Con pretending to be me, I shouldn't be difficult to recognize; I'll be the greybeard with the cool cane and the Batman baseball cap stumbling around the con floor, making musical "oy!" noises.

See you there.
Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-56253008568025605902012-06-05T17:59:00.001-07:002012-06-05T17:59:29.859-07:00I Made a Right Turn at AlbuquerqueWell, it's that time again. This weekend, instead of being in the audience laughing my wrinkly old butt off at the Thrilling Adventure Hour, I'll be in New Mexico, in Albuquerque, to be precise, at the Albuquerque Comics Expo, signing autographs and hanging out with old friends like Melinda Snodgrass, George RR Martin, Herb Trimpe, and I'll even be sharing a panel with my old boss and friend, the legendary Stan Lee. If, like Bugs Bunny, you make a wrong turn along the way and find yourself in town, drop by and say howdy.

Otherwise, I don't how I'm gonna fill the time.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-59396154611716452152012-04-28T19:14:00.001-07:002012-04-28T19:14:44.217-07:00It's Weird Being MeOkay, as you know, I've been on the road a bit over the past few weeks. Here's a couple of odd stories of my adventures.

Two weeks ago, my lovely wife Christine and I went to Chicago for the C2E2 Convention (the only con I know of that is apparently named after a droid). Anyway, I was checking in at the front desk of the Hyatt when the desk clerk told me they had a lovely room with two double beds for us. I reminded the desk clerk that we had ordered one king-size bed instead and he said it would take a new seconds to fix the mistake. He did what he needed to do, told us he now had a lovely room with a King bed for us, and printed out the keys. Then he checked his computer and said that a welcoming gift had already been delivered to the original room for us. He told me he would have a bellman deliver the bag to the new room. I thanked him, collected our baggage and went up to our room. While I was up in the room, unpacking (Chris had already gone down to the lobby to meet an old Law School friend of hers), the doorbell rang and I opened the door to find a young bellman standing there, holding a gift bag in one hand. Before I could say anything, the bellboy looked at me, did a double-take, and said, incredulously, "Len Wein?" Equally incredulous, I stammered back, "Y-yes. B-but how did you know?" The bellboy smiled, handed me the gift bag, shrugged, and said, "Wikipedia." Welcome to the 21st Century.

Last week, I went solo to the first annual Vancouver Fan Expo. On my flight, among others, were Kevin (Hercules) Sorbo, Lou (Hulk) Ferrigno, Marina (Councilor Troi) Sirtis, Nicholas (Xander) Brendon, Michael (Worf) Dorn, and a few others I'd sadly forgotten for the moment. When I got to customs, I handed my passport to an amiable young Customs agent, who took the document, read my name, and said, "Now why is that name so familiar to--?" and then the penny dropped. Suddenly, he started treating me like royalty, thanking me for creating Wolverine, thanking me for honoring their country by coming to the convention, so forth and so on for several minutes. I thanked him in return, got my passport stamped, and went on about my business.

For the rest of the weekend, as I sat at my table at the convention, signing autographs and greeting fans, people kept coming up to me, saying they'd had the weirdest experience at Customs with a young agent, that when he found out that they were coming to the Convention, he would go on and on about how he had stamped my passport, shaken my hand, and so on. To him, it seemed, I was a bigger celebrity than the others I've mentioned above.

The older I get, the more absolutely bizarre my life seems to become. Well, at least it's never, ever boring.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-88953452811544434902012-03-08T11:59:00.000-08:002012-03-08T11:59:55.411-08:00Here, There, EverywhereOne of the most pleasant side-effects of being on the hottest project of the year (and, let's face it, there's not likely to be any project this year that is hotter than Before Watchmen) is being invited to conventions all over the continent. So far this year, it looks like I'm gonna be a guest at Wonder-Con in LA at the Anaheim Hilton on March 16-18, at both the Chicago Comics Expo on April 13-15 and at the Vancouver Comics Expo in Vancouver, Canada the following week, April 20-22, then the Dallas Comic Con in Texas on May 18-20, the Albuquerque Comics Expo in New Mexico on June 8-10, the San Diego Comic-Con International from July 11-15, the Toronto Fan Expo in Canada on August 23-26, the Montreal Comic-Con from September 14-16, and the New York Comic-Con in NYC from October 11-14, with several other cons still in the offing.

So, if you're looking to get anything autographed or just want to drop by and say howdy, that's where you're gonna find me so far. I look forward to seeing you.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-69031009417901231022012-02-01T13:38:00.000-08:002012-02-04T15:51:34.717-08:00Before WatchmenAnd let's face it, folks, there was a whole lot that went on before Watchmen. When the late and much-lamented Dick Giordano offered the then recently acquired Charleton line of Action Heroes from his former publisher to Alan Moore to develop a storyline, he was more than a little taken aback when the story Alan proposed involved ultimately killing off most of the characters. "Look," said Dick in as kindly a fashion he could, "I didn't go to all the time and trouble of gaining creative control of these characters only to have them knocked off in their first new story. What say you take the story you've developed, Alan, and create a batch of new characters to go with it?" Alan considered this briefly, and thus were the Watchmen born. Captain Atom became Doctor Manhattan, Peacemaker became the Comedian, Blue Beetle was now the Nite Owl, The Question was unquestionably Rorschach, Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt evolved into Ozymandias, and Silk Spectre was the new Nightshade. Alan, with the invaluable assistance of the talented Dave Gibbons, told his story, and went his merry way. I was the editor of most of those early issues, and I had a problem with Alan's intended ending to the series, specifically that the ending was almost verbatim the ending of a wonderful episode of the classic SF series, The Outer Limits, called "The Architects of Fear". When I argued with Alan that he had to change his ending because it had already been done, Alan's reply was simply, "Well, it hasn't been done by me." To this day, the redundant ending of Watchmen mars all of the book's other magnificent qualities for me.

Now, here it is, a quarter of a century later, and some of the greatest talent currently in comics is taking a new look at what made these classic characters click. Before Watchmen will explore the fascinating pasts of these characters in limited interlocking series with an eighth series that will run in the back of all of the other books. J. Michael Straczynski and Adam Hughes will explore exactly what makes Doctor Manhattan tick, while JMS and and the astonishing son/father team of Andy and Joe Kubert reveal the past of Nite Owl. The multi-talented Darwyn Cooke will write and illustrate the history of the Minutemen, while Darwyn will write and the amazing Amanda Conner will illustrate the story of the Silk Spectre. Brian Azzarello will write The Comedian, to be illustrated by J.G. Jones, and Rorschach, which will be drawn by Lee Bermejo. Meanwhile your humble blogger will be telling the true history of Ozymandias, with the stunning Jae Lee handing the art. Finally, the original Watchmen colorist, John Higgins, will be illustrating, and I will be writing The Curse of the Crimson Corsair, one of the many other pirate titles DC published in the Watchmen world in lieu of super-hero comics, though this rather elaborate story will be running in two-page segments through the entire rest of the Before Watchmen line.

It will be a daunting task, to say the least, but each and every one of us is eager for the challenge. The release dates will be announced shortly. Keep an open eye and an open mind and we'll talk about all this as things progress. It's gonna be an interesting Summer.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-67997671017636646842010-07-20T15:04:00.000-07:002010-07-20T15:04:27.072-07:00My Sunny San Diego ScheduleHey, Gang--
There are two reasons for this. One is that Len is really bad about promoting himself and the other is that people are getting FB messages that say "Len has too many friends." The Fan Page solves that problem. I remembered the password. I've hijacked Len Wein's blog to let you all know that Len will be signing Legacies #1 today (May 19) at Galaxy of Comics at 17306 Saticoy Street in Van Nuys, California, from about 3-6 p.m. Len doesn't seem to get around here often enough these days and I think he should come and talk about Legacies and that list of the 10 Greatest Len Wein Stories that appeared on Comic Book Resources this week.

Honey, I know you've been busy writing Human Target comics and the Legacies series, but you really ought to drop in here once in a while and let your fans know when you've got something new out and are making appearances.
I've written four of them so far and the first one, "Trade-Off!", premieres tonight at 8:30PM on the Cartoon Network, and will be repeated tomorrow morning at 8:30AM on same. I'm particularly proud of my work on this show, and am glad to finally be able to share it with you all.

Tune in tonight or tomorrow and catch the episode, won't you? Then drop me a line to let me know what you thought. You know I do all this for you.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-60781356641119579052009-12-01T15:04:00.000-08:002009-12-03T10:57:01.586-08:00Have a Happy Me Day!Well, I'm utterly slackjawed with wonderment to discover that this Saturday, December 5, 2009 is Official Len Wein Day in Los Angeles County. That day, I'll be doing a signing of the 100 Wolverine Covers Special Edition Collection for the Hero Initiative along with many of the artists who actually drew the covers at Collectors Paradise at 7131 Winnetka Ave. in Canoga Park from 7 to 10PM, where, I'm told, I'll be receiving an official proclamation. It's gonna take a while for me to fully wrap my head around this one, people. If you need more information, you can find whatever you need by clicking here.

Hell, it's an honor just to be nominated.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-49906841779250093782009-10-29T18:07:00.000-07:002009-10-29T18:08:30.266-07:00Still More MeWell, if you enjoyed the previous two interviews with your Humble blogger regarding the X-Men Origins: Wolverine DVD, here's yet another one. We watch the program religiously. When we're home, we revel in it. When we're out, we Tivo it so we can revel in it when we get home. We take enormous pride in the fact that we can count an astonishing number of former Jeopardy! champions among our dearest friends. In short, we are, as the always-charming Bob Harris titled his wonderful book on the subject, hopeless Prisoners of Trebeckistan.

So it is with considerable pride that I suggest to you that you Tivo, tape, or just stay home and watch Jeopardy! this coming Monday October 26th to see how the lovely and brilliant Christine handles herself as a first-time contestant on the world's greatest game show. Christine has spent a lot of time and effort studying for the program and, so long as the categories don't include subjects like The History of Lint or Things Only Len and Other Geeks Would Know, my money is on her.

So turn on, tune in, and let me know what you thought of her performance this coming Monday. Check your local listings for time and channel.

A word to the wise and all that.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-36418248883208621582009-10-15T08:05:00.000-07:002009-10-15T08:11:58.593-07:00More MeWell, the first of my X-Men Origins: Wolverine Blu-ray interviews went pretty well. I did something like 35 brief interviews in the space of four hours, some on camera and some for print in international media. Here, for your edification, is one of those interviews.

I should look this good all the time.

Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-19595322912868182982009-10-09T20:04:00.000-07:002009-10-09T20:23:14.552-07:00Hot l BaltimoreWell, it's been a heck of a week. I've been on the road since last Friday, feeling kind'a lousy for most of the time. Last weekend I was at Mid-Ohio-Con where a fine time was had by all, myself by no means least among them. For the past week, I've been in New York City, working on my mega-project for DC Comics for next year and seeing as many plays and musicals as I could manage.

On Monday, my lovely sister-in-law T (we're planning to buy her more letters for her name for Christmas) and I went to see the Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, a story of a woman played by Tony winner Alice Ripley who is suffering extreme mental distress, and loved it. On Tuesday, we saw a preview of Memphis the Musical, a story of the birth of rock-and-roll, and loved it just as much. Wednesday night, we saw the drama Still Life, starring Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip's own Sarah Paulson, and co-starring my brilliantly-talented niece-in-law Kelly McAndrew, and really enjoyed it. Thursday night, T and I were Hugh Jackman's guests to see his new Broadway drama, A Steady Rain, also starring James Bond himself, Daniel Craig. It is a very good show made brilliant by two extraordinary performances. After the show, we were invited backstage, where the always-gentlemanly Hugh introduced us to the legendary Bernadette Peters (one of my idols) and superstar photographer Annie Liebovitz. It was a memorable evening, to say the least.

This weekend, to cap things off, I am a guest for the very first time at the Baltimore Comicon, where I'll be doing panels and signing autographs for what will probably seem like the rest of my life. If you're going to be there, please drop by, say hi, and remind me you read this blog. The more who do, the more often I'm likely to post things here.

A word to the wise and all that. Now I'm going to go fall down until morning.
Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-20758537971565357972009-10-01T21:46:00.001-07:002009-10-01T21:54:19.441-07:00One Con in OhioWell, I'm off to the latest Mid-Ohio-Con this weekend, October 3-4, in beautiful Columbus, Ohio. I'll be doing a panel on Saturday on the origin of Wolverine with co-creator Herb Trimpe and another panel on Sunday on the origins of Swamp Thing with co-creator Bernie Wrightson. So if there's still anything you don't know about how these two strips got started, be sure to drop and listen in. I'll have a table at the Con where I'll be doing signings for most of the rest of the weekend. Now is definitely the chance for all seven of you left in the world who don't have their copies of Incredible Hulk #181 and Swamp Thing #1 signed by me and my co-conspirators to get that little mistake fixed. I'm bound and determined that every single copy of both titles will be signed before I go to my ultimate reward, so don't let me down.

Heck, even if you've got nothing to be signed, stop on by and say howdy. You know how lonely these cons can get.

If I'm not at my table, check out the local Mongolian BBQ to find me. My good buddy Mark Evanier is determined to drag me there before the con is over.

See you in Columbus.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-77397318314213001092009-08-26T14:25:00.000-07:002009-08-26T14:31:50.755-07:00Blame CanadaWell, at least that's what you can do if I'm eaten by a bear or a moose or something carnivorous any time over the next few days while I'm a guest up in beautiful Toronto at Fan Expo Canada 2009. You can get all the info you need to attend by clicking right here. Fan Expo appears to be an amazing collection of several different cons all wrapped up in one and the guest list for each of the five cons-in-one is extraordinary.

I'll be doing signings and panels Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Stop by and say howdy, eh? I promise to be glad to see you.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-12961278538338836942009-07-20T15:01:00.001-07:002009-07-20T15:33:58.134-07:00Where I'll be at Comic-ConI haven't posted much here over the past few months. Most of you know why. The fire, my kidney stone, not really knowing how to truly thank all of you for your absolutely humbling generosity in response to our (comparatively tiny) plight. Please do know that your heartwarming response to all of this has brought me to tears more than once over the past few months. I thank each and every one of you more than I can capably express, and those many of you who answered Mark Evanier's call to replace my fire-damaged books can expect a more personal thank you later this summer.

Anyway, on to why I'm posting here. My lovely wife has suggested quite vociferously that I let any of you who might by actually interested to know where I'll be at various times during comic-Con so you can come by, say hi, get books autographed, the usual. So, okay, here it goes as I know it to be true at this moment. I almost guarantee some things will change before the end of the week.

THURSDAY:

Now and then at the Bloodfire Studios booth (booth #1621), I will be on hand to sign copies of their new Kindergoth Special which I co-wrote with Bloodfire guru Lee Kohse. It's a fun and funny book, well worth your time. Stop by and check their list to find out when I'll be there, though I do promise to be there at some point all four days of the con.

Here's a peek at the cool cover...

FRIDAY:

So far nothing firm scheduled, but try me at the Bloodfire or DC booths. I'm certain to be at both during the day.

SATURDAY:

Okay, so here's the real killer day...

11:15AM (rm. 6BCF) I'll be kibbitzing during Mark Evanier's always-entertaining Quick Draw Panel, this year starring Sergio Aragones, Scott Shaw! and, for the first time, Disney legend and old friend Floyd Norman. You'll hate yourself if you miss it.

11:45AM (rm. 6DE) I'll be watching the Ben 10 panel like every other self-respecting animation fan. I'm not sure if I'll be on the panel or in the audience but, since I've written three upcoming episodes of the series, I'll definitely be there.

3PM (rm. 3) I'll be interviewing my old cohort Doug Moench, who's one of this year's special guests, on his lengthy and storied career. Tales will be told, secrets will be spilled, so be there.

4:45PM (rm. 6BCF) I'll be on the panel for the premiere preview screening of the new FOX series, the Human Target, based on my comic book series. I'll be sharing the stars with Executive Producers Jon Steinberg, Brad Kern, and Peter Johnson, as well as several of the cast members, including stars Mark Valley, Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley. We'll be taking your questions after the screening, so please have some ready. I've already seen the pilot and, trust me, it kicks the proverbial tush.

6PM (Autograph Area) I'll be at the FOX table with the aforementioned folks, signing autographs and spreading the good word.

SUNDAY:

Again, nothing firm so far, but check out the DC and Bloodfire booths as I suggested before.

Anyway, that's the schedule for the moment. If you're going to be at the Con, please track me down and say hi, and let me know you read this here blog.

And, once again, thanks for everything.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-23183899948778439842009-03-11T11:14:00.000-07:002009-03-11T11:18:34.213-07:00The Best There Is At What He Does...For all the blatantly obvious reasons, I present to you the following...

Cool, huh?Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-25012384559619069412009-02-24T17:30:00.000-08:002009-02-27T10:15:56.012-08:00Return of the Revenge of Shameless Self-PromotionWell, having totally neglected to mention that I wrote the Origins & Omens back-up story in last week's Justice League of America #30 (still on sale in better comic book shops everywhere if you're quick enough and lucky enough), it behooves me to mention that this coming Wednesday, February 25th, DC in releasing a new Tales of the Green Lantern Corps trade paperback that will include the terrific 3-part miniseries I co-wrote all those many years ago with my old office mate Mike W. The art is by the always-amazing Joe Staton and it features a couple of villains who you really ought to know about going into this summer's big Blackest Night event. The book is filled out with a number of GLC tales by the likes of Todd Klein, Paul Kupperberg, and Watchmen's own Dave Gibbons, and is well worth your time and effort.

A word to the wise and all that.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-55846080451698757802009-02-24T17:11:00.000-08:002009-02-24T17:27:29.808-08:00Say What? There's currently an article making the rounds over on the Yahoo! movies site called "10 Essential Facts About 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'". You can check out the entire article by clicking here. The so-called "fact" that, frankly, makes me quite crazy, however, is "Fact" #2, which states:
Co-creator Len Wein's original idea was that the character was actually a wolverine cub that was mutated into human form. He also intended for Wolverine's signature claws to extend from his gloves, not from his body. But these ideas were dropped when new writer Chris Claremont took over the series.
Let me respond to this as emphatically as I possibly can.

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! And...oh, yeah...WRONG!

Well, at least, in part.

While I readily admit that my original idea was for Wolvie's claws to extend from the backs of his gloves (I figured that since Adamantium is indestructible, telescoping claws no more than a molecule thick could fit into those casings in the backs of Adamantium gloves, which had then been covered in cloth. Dave and Chris definitely improved on that idea), I absolutely DID NOT ever intend to make Logan a mutated wolverine. I write stories about human beings, not evolved animals (with apologies for any story I may have written that involved the High Evolutionary). The mutated wolverine thing came about long after I was no longer involved with the book. I'm not certain if the idea was first suggested by Chris Claremont, the late much-missed Dave Cockrum, or John Byrne when he came aboard as artist, but it most certainly DID NOT start with me.

Just setting the record straight here. As far as I'm concerned, that idea is spinach, and I say to Hell with it.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2756715504291908040.post-74646358905566904882009-02-02T11:35:00.000-08:002009-02-02T11:58:04.636-08:00New York State of MindWell, the lovely wife reminds me that I ought to let all and sundry know that I'm going to be one of the guests this coming weekend at the New York Comic-Con, to be held at the Jacob Javits Center in lively but frigid NYC. Rumor has it I'll be signing the new Flash Gordon 75th Anniversary Special from Ardden Publishing at their booth on Friday and Saturday, and signing my three latest books from DC (Final Crisis Secret Files, Superman/Batman Annual #3, JLA #29) among others, at the DC Booth at various times during the weekend. Beyond that, I'll be on a few panels (check schedule for details) and I'll be available at my own table most of the rest of the time to sign pretty much anything else you've got (within reason).

So come on by, say howdy, and let me know you heard about it all at this here blog. I'll be looking for you.Len Weinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11619143398147167868noreply@blogger.com1
